Parent Participation

The Little Athletics motto of ‘Family, Fun and Fitness’ highlights that it is a community activity involving the whole family on a weekly basis. ALL PARENTS are encouraged and expected to do their bit by helping at Saturday afternoon meets to assist with the events for THEIR children. Don’t be shy, the children actually love it when their mum or dad is involved. Most roles require very little previous experience or skill level. Committee members and other parents will be available for guidance and assistance in the roles if needed.

Official jobs may include -

AGE MARSHALL: Escorting the group from one event to the next. Monitoring children’s behaviour, supporting our young athletes and keeping the group focussed.

FOOD: Assisting with end of meet snack sales / distribution. This may vary from ice-blocks, BBQ, cold drinks or other snack sales that the committee may instigate.

MEASURER: Measuring jumps / throws of individual athletes. Information on ‘best practise’ is attached to each equipment box. Assistance will also be provided by coach.

STARTER: Starting track events using the starting gun. This person must be responsible and over the age of 18 years.

TIME KEEPER: Timing and recording track events.

COACH: Official, qualified coaches who provide valuable advice, direction and guidance to the athletes in their various activities.

RECORDER: Records each athletes results at each event to enable transfer to online database.

EQUIPMENT OFFICER: Ensures correct equipment is placed at each event in readiness for the afternoon’s activities. Ensures all equipment is returned at end of day and is in good order. Assists with setting up and packing away of equipment.

On each Centre Competition Day, we require a large number of parents / caregivers to conduct the events and enable the afternoon to run smoothly. We therefore ask you to arrive early and offer your assistance. Sign your name on the sheet provided to ensure your assistance is recorded.

To ensure we have enough parents to conduct our activities, GBLA collect a $50 family volunteer levy. This levy is fully refunded at the conclusion of the season if a parent / caregiver provides assistance at a minimum of 50% of meets throughout the season (usually around 9 afternoons).

Volunteer Rosters

A roster will be prepared by Granite Belt Little Athletics before each Saturday meet and distributed to families, confirming their role for that week. If a family is unable to provide a volunteer for their allocated week, they need to contact Granite Belt Little Athletics no later than the Thursday evening prior to their allocated week so alternative arrangements can be made. Volunteers must sign off the volunteer sheet that is held with the Centre Secretary each week, otherwise the volunteering session will not be recorded and subsequently may not be counted.

Please contact one of our Committee members to discuss how you can assist with the successful running of our centre.
